Club Penguin Legacy

About Club Penguin Legacy

A free AS2-era Club Penguin remake you play in the browser, with a big focus on safety tools and long party events. Over 1,000,000 accounts, no memberships, ads or donations at all.

Club Penguin Legacy (CPL) is an AS2-style remake that runs at play.cplegacy.com. Testing started on April 16, 2022 with one server called Blizzard, and the public launch followed in early May 2022. It passed 1,000,000 registered accounts on November 3, 2025, and about half of those were made in 2025 alone.

The whole thing is free. The site says there are no memberships, no locked features, no ads and no donations, and the team pays for it themselves. Coins come from minigames, mining in the Cave Mine, codes, giveaways and igloo contests.

The team leans hard on safety. There's optional Two Step Login with an authenticator app, Safe Chat modes that parents can set, an in-game report button, an ignore button that hides a penguin completely, and moderators who can clear a whole room's chat. Mutes are permanent and only get lifted through Support.

In January 2023 Disney sent CPL a DMCA notice and the game closed for about a month. It came back on February 19, 2023 with a Welcome Back Event and has kept running since, with a party or event most months and a Penguin of the Week post every week on the blog.

Who runs it

Blog posts in the early years were written by Joey, and most recent ones by Hot Autumn and Shovel. The April 2024 Meet the Team post also names 9cool, jaimie, Lula, mar (art and animation), meybe (developer), MrLord, Shovel (artist) and Shroud.

Parties and updates

Something new most months. Recent ones: the Island Adventure Party: Island Infestation (July 8, 2026), the surprise BBQ Bash (July 31, 2026) and Mission: Tremendous Tremors (September 2026). Penguin of the Week posts go up every week, and mascot meetups are scheduled on the Blizzard server.

What's in Club Penguin Legacy

• Custom P.S.A. missions

Multi-phase overworld missions like Mission: Get Jet and Mission: Tremendous Tremors. During Tremendous Tremors anyone could take the agent test, no matter how old their penguin was.

• Card-Jitsu League

Regular Card-Jitsu on the Training Mats plus a ranked League. A 2024 update cut the training matches you need before earning belts from 15 to 3 and sped up matchmaking.

• Safety tools

Optional Two Step Login, parent-set Safe Chat modes, in-game reporting, an ignore button that hides a penguin and their messages, and moderators who can clear a room's chat.

• Igloo saves

You can keep three named igloos, search your furniture, toggle boundaries with a button and buy igloo music to keep.

• Puffles

Adoptable puffles with a reworked Pet Shop, added in September 2024 after players had asked for them since launch.

• Find Four with spectating

You can watch other players' Find Four matches live. Mancala and Sled Racing are also there as multiplayer games.

• Penguin of the Week

Every week the blog features a player's penguin. It was past #206 by October 2026.

• Tour Guides and Secret Agents

You can become a Tour Guide once your penguin is 30 days old and a Secret Agent at 60 days.

Is Club Penguin Legacy safe?

Club Penguin Legacy has a chat filter and some moderation, but it can be hit or miss. It's fine for most players, just use the report button if something's off. Its security looks okay from the outside, but it's missing a few extras the best servers have. Like with any CPPS, use a password you don't use anywhere else.

Past incidents

1. Jan 2023

Disney sent a DMCA notice on January 18, 2023. CPL closed on January 24, citing Disney's enforcement of its intellectual property, and reopened on February 19, 2023. Read more

2. Oct 2026

A bug made puffles vanish from igloos for players who logged in over about six days. The team restored most of them from a backup made six days earlier. Puffles adopted after that backup had to be re-adopted, and Rainbow Puffles were handled separately. Read more
