About Penguin Origins
A free HTML5 server that rebuilds Club Penguin's earliest years (2005 to 2008) step by step, with custom mascots, NPCs and its own spin on old parties. Good pick if you want the AS1 island in your browser with no download.
Penguin Origins recreates the AS1 era of Club Penguin and plays in the browser with nothing to download (it needs WebGL turned on). It runs on Yukon, the open-source HTML5 client and server, and upgraded to Yukon v1.11 and Phaser 4 in December 2025. Everything is free and there is no membership, so every player gets member stuff.
It started almost empty on purpose. The island opened on January 3, 2025 with a Holiday Beta Party, and then rooms got added over time with little in-game stories: the Snow Forts, an agency HQ, the Plaza built in phases with Rory (Pizza Parlor in March 2025, Pet Shop and puffle adoption right after), then the Underground with the Boiler Room, Cave and Mine plus a Ski Lodge attic in May 2025.
The custom side includes mascots like DJ Maxx, NPCs such as Paige and Rory, a Snow Cat vehicle for collecting construction supplies, player votes on surprise events and on a new Penguin Band member, and party-only rooms. In October 2025 it ran a crossover with Antique Penguin, another AS1 server.
In a September 2026 post, staff member Alex said he is now the only active developer, so updates and big features will be slower for a while. He also said the game is not shutting down and server funding is fine.
Who runs it
ChrisCPI and alexsssi are listed as owners on the CPPS wiki. Chris wrote the early blog posts and Alex has written them since February 2026. As of September 2026 Alex is the only active developer.
Parties and updates
Roughly monthly parties plus small mini-events, catalog and newspaper updates. Recent: the Eras Party (late 2025), the Water Party (September 2026) and a camp-themed update with a Halloween tease in October 2026. Blog posts have gotten rarer since mid 2025.
What's in Penguin Origins
- Island built up over time
Rooms open in story phases instead of all at once, like helping Rory build the Plaza or dig out the Underground.
- Custom mascots and NPCs
DJ Maxx visits as a real mascot with a giveaway background, and NPCs like Paige and Rory run activities around the island.
- Player votes
Players have voted on surprise event themes and on whether Franky or Denny became the fourth Penguin Band member.
- Penguin Times newspaper
A newspaper drops with updates and hints, and people whose submissions get printed receive an exclusive item.
- Community event bonus items
Go to 10 community events and you get coins, and since the Water Party also a bonus item that rotates.
- No membership
Free forever, with member benefits for everyone and no ads. Coins can't be bought with real money.
